BLUE OCEAN TALKS UP HALIFAX IN DIRECT MARKETING NEWS

Blue Ocean Contact Centers has been featured in the latest issue of Direct Marketing promoting the city of Halifax as an ideal location of headquarters for a marketing company. The feature was part of the national publication’s Regional Report which profiles Canadian cities and the direct marketing companies that operate there.

Accompanying commentary from industry colleagues at Russell House and Epic Marketing Solutions, Blue Ocean’s Senior VP of Business Development, Andrew O’Brien, gave kudos to the city for having great technological infrastructure and a highly skilled workforce. The article, written by DMN contributor Amy Bostock, promotes Halifax as having the highest percentage of employees with a degree, diploma or certificate in all of Canada. Not surprising considering Halifax boasts six degree-granting institutions and three community colleges.

“The quality of the labor pool is something we benefit significantly from,” says Andrew. “Eighty percent of our workforce is university educated”. Considering Nova Scotia has recently been dubbed Canada’s University Capital, the depth of the skilled labor market can only expect to get greater.

The article also compares Halifax as a base of operations compared to other major marketing centres like Toronto or Ottawa. The verdict is unanimous – operating out of Halifax offers few disadvantages and can even be advantageous as compared to other major markets. “We have access to the best labor and technology here,” says Andrew “and the connectivity of the internet allows us to engage easily with clients and potential clients internationally as well as their customers.”

But even though most direct marketing companies based in Halifax are finding clients globally, there are still opportunities in local industries. “Nova Scotia Tourism, who was our first client, has been with us for 15 years and is based in Halifax,” says Andrew. “Direct marketing plays a significant role in the Tourism industry as well as the telecom space which is also a major industry in Nova Scotia.”

Not just a strong foundation for the marketing industry, Halifax has proven itself to be an economic hub for many major industries and a sustainable growth engine for the Atlantic Canadian Region.
